A franchise may open the bidding to any free agent not on a team. The period will last for 24 hours. If a team chooses to up the bidding on said player, then the process will extend another 24 hours until the player has not been bid on by any franchise for 24 hours. Basically, each new bid starts the 24 hour clock again until no more bids have been made. Then, that particular player will be won by the team with the last bid. Free Agent Bidding will be open until an unspecified date to be determined in the future.
Once the 24 hours is up and your team has the winning bid, please adhere to the contract rules as follows if applicable:
Any player who is bid on for a dollar amount 5 or higher has some contract responsibilies that go along with that . They are as follows:
$5 bid has a minimum of 3 yr deal
$6 bid has a minimum of 4 yr deal
$7 bid has a minimum of 5 yr deal
Any bid that is over $8 dollars will be assigned a 6 yr deal, so you better really love the guy and willing to take that cap hit for 6 years of a contract! These dollar bids with minimum year deal restrictions have been in place since Day 1.
Free Agents not on a team, bought out players, and rookies not drafted are all eligible to be bid on. Each follows the same rules.
If the team with a winning bid does not post the contract years either by the above rules if applicable again or by the team's choice AND the roster designation within 48 hours of the bid being won, then the player that was bid on will be put back into Free Agency. Thus, the player will be eligible to be bid on again by the entire league.
Then, the franchise with the winning bid may put him on their vet roster or taxi squad. Make sure you have enough roster space and/or cap space for your winning bid(s).
If the winning bid was $4 or below then the winning franchise may sign him to a contract of up to 5 years or as low as 1 year. Please indicate whether that player will be on your team's vet roster or taxi squad, so I may update the sheet as needed.
